Kiel
Clear snow falling between 7 am and 8 pm (Sundays and public holidays 8 am to 8 pm) within one hour after each snowfall ends. Snow and ice after 8 pm by 7 am the next day, by 8 am on Sundays and public holidays, even if it is still snowing.
In all streets, keep pavements along the property frontage free of snow and ice and grit them when icy, where possible at least 1.5 m wide; owners of properties behind the frontage plots are also obliged. Keep access to pedestrian crossings and bus or tram stops safe.
Grit with abrasive materials (grit, granules or sand, no clinker or ash). Road salt is generally banned, allowed only in freezing wet conditions and freezing rain or at particularly dangerous spots such as pedestrian crossings, steps, ramps and steep slopes; never on tree pits or planted areas.
If municipal vehicles or others cover the pavement with snow again, clear it again. Breaches can be fined €5 to €511.
