Eschweiler
Snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm must be cleared immediately. Snow falling or ice forming after 8 pm must be cleared by 7 am on weekdays, or by 9 am on Sundays and public holidays, the following day.
Keep the pavement clear of snow and ice to the width required for its use, generally at least 1.20 m. At stops, keep pavements clear and gritted so that boarding and alighting is safe.
When icy, grit must be applied, with abrasive materials preferred; salt or other de-icing substances should be used only in special weather conditions such as freezing rain, at dangerous spots such as steps, ramps or steep gradients, or where abrasive materials cannot establish adequate road safety. Tree pits and planted areas must not be gritted with salt, nor may snow containing it be deposited there.
Anyone who intentionally or negligently fails to comply with the cleaning and winter maintenance duty commits an administrative offence, punishable by a fine of between €25 and €500.
