Snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm must be removed immediately after the snowfall ends. Snow and ice arising after 8 pm must be cleared by 7 am on weekdays, or 9 am on Sundays and public holidays, the following day.
Keep the pavement clear of snow to the width needed for pedestrians, at least 1 m. Where there is no pavement, a 1.50 m wide strip along the property boundary counts as the pavement.
Grit pavements with abrasive material when icy. Salt and other de-icing substances are generally banned, allowed only in weather-related exceptions such as freezing rain, on slopes of more than 5% gradient, and on steps, ramps and bridge approach ramps. Salt and other de-icers must not be spread on tree pits or planted areas, nor may snow treated with them be deposited there.
Breaches of the cleaning and winter service duties are administrative offences punishable by fines of up to 500 euro.
