Clear snow and grit when icy by 7 am at the latest on weekdays and by 8 am at the latest on Sundays and public holidays. Repeat as often as necessary until 8 pm.
The footway in front of the property must be kept safe in a width sufficient for pedestrians, except for shared foot and cycle paths. Where there is no paved or marked-off pavement, this is a 1 m wide strip at the edge of the road; this does not apply if the street has a pavement on one side.
Grit with abrasive materials such as sand or chippings, not with road salt or corrosive substances; a grit-salt or sand-salt mix with no more than 10% salt is allowed. Road salt only where there is a particular risk of slipping, e.g. on steps or steep slopes, and only in the minimum amount necessary.
The duty applies to all public roads within the built-up area. Breaches can be fined up to €1,000.
