Snow must be cleared immediately after each snowfall, and pavements must likewise be gritted when icy. If snow falls or ice forms after 8 pm, clearing and gritting must be completed by 7 am the next day, and by 9 am on Sundays and public holidays.
Clear pavements and verges to a width of 1.50 m and grit them when icy; 2 m where a marked cycle path on the pavement is also assigned. Where there is no pavement, a 1.50 m wide strip of the road along the property boundary applies.
Salt or other de-icing substances are generally banned, allowed only in exceptional weather conditions such as freezing rain and on steps, ramps, bridge access ramps and slopes. Pavements and verges with trees or adjoining planting must not be gritted with salt.
Breaches may be punished as a regulatory offence with a fine of up to €500.
