Dortmund
Snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm must be removed immediately once the snowfall stops or the ice forms. Snow falling after 8 pm must be removed by 7 am on weekdays and by 9 am on Sundays and public holidays the next day.
Keep pavements clear of snow over a width of 1.50 m and grit them when there is ice or packed snow; in traffic-calmed areas and pedestrian zones a 1.50 m strip from the walkable edge of the street counts as pavement. At bus stops, pedestrian crossings and crossing aids, clear and grit so that people can get there and away safely.
Salt and other de-icers are banned in principle and only allowed in exceptional weather (e.g. freezing rain) or at dangerous spots such as steps, ramps, bridge approaches and steep slopes. Do not put salt on tree pits and planted areas or pile snow containing salt on them.
Winter maintenance of pavements lies with the owners of adjoining properties on their side of the street. Owners also clean and look after public footpaths and connecting paths in winter, up to the middle of the path where there are frontagers on both sides.
The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning and fees bylaw of 22 November 2024
