Honest questions. Honest answers.

What does cleaning cost?

Snow clearing duty

Trier

Keep pavements and pavement strips safely usable during normal traffic hours; these begin at 8 am on Sundays and public holidays, otherwise at 7 am, and end at 9 pm in each case. Repeat measures as needed.

Where there is no paved pavement, a 1.50 m strip along the property boundary applies, and in pedestrian zones a 1.50 m strip along the building frontage. At public transport stops, clear the full width of the pavement so that safe boarding and alighting is possible at at least one point.

Use rock salt, sand, fine ash, sawdust or other suitable materials for gritting; use rock salt sufficiently but sparingly. Applying rock salt to green areas and tree pits is not permitted for environmental reasons.

The town's bylaw is authoritative: Bylaw on the cleaning of public streets and squares in the city of Trier of 23 May 2003, as amended by the amending bylaws of 29 November 2006, 19 December 2007, 16 December 2009, 2 February 2017, 28 September 2017, 17 December 2019 and 28 September 2022

Konz

Snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm must be cleared without delay; after that, by 7 am on weekdays and by 9 am on Sundays and public holidays the following day. Grit pavements repeatedly through the day as needed so there is no risk of slipping.

Keep the pavement clear of snow to a width of 1.5 m. Where there is no pavement, a 1.5 m wide strip along the property boundary counts as the pavement.

Grit material is abrasive substances such as granulate, ash, sand or sawdust. Salt is generally banned, allowed only in particular icy weather conditions such as freezing rain or at hazardous spots such as steps, ramps and steep slopes. Tree pits and green areas must not be gritted with salt.

The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning bylaw of 26 June 2023
