Remscheid
Remove snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm (Sundays and public holidays 9 am to 8 pm) without delay. Anything after 8 pm by 7 am the next day, Sundays and public holidays by 9 am.
After snowfall, clear pavements to the width pedestrians need, at least 1 m, 2.50 m in pedestrian zones; narrower pavements across their full width. The cleared area must connect to that of neighbouring properties and to pedestrian crossings.
In icy or snowy conditions, grit with abrasive materials. De-icers are not permitted in principle, allowed only in exceptional cases such as freezing rain or at dangerous spots such as steps and ramps; never on tree pits or planted areas.
Owners are responsible for clearing and gritting the pavements of the streets listed in the street directory, and the road only where the directory specifically marks it.

Snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm must be cleared without delay after the snowfall or icy conditions end. Snow and ice arising after 8 pm must be cleared the next morning, weekdays by 7 am, Sundays and public holidays by 9 am.
Keep the pavement clear of snow to the width required for pedestrian traffic. Where there is no separation between carriageway and pavement (e.g. traffic-calmed areas), keep a strip at least 1 m wide clear of snow and gritted. At bus and school bus stops, ensure safe access to and from the stop.
As a rule, only abrasive materials may be used for gritting. Rock salt or other de-icing substances only in specially justified weather-related exceptional cases (e.g. freezing rain, black ice) or at particular hazard points (e.g. steps, bridges, pedestrian crossings, steep slopes). Tree pits and planted areas must not be gritted with salt, and salted snow must not be dumped there.
Breaches of the cleaning or winter maintenance duty are administrative offences, with a fine of up to €1,000.
