Snow falling and ice forming between 7 am and 6 pm must be cleared immediately once the snowfall or icing has ended. Snow falling and ice forming after 6 pm must be cleared by 7 am on weekdays, and by 9 am on Sundays and public holidays, the following day.
Keep pavements clear of snow to a width sufficient for pedestrian traffic. When icy, grit the paths, pedestrian crossings and dangerous points on carriageways that must be cleaned. At public transport and school bus stops, keep access as safe as possible and grit it.
Abrasive materials with the lowest possible environmental impact must be used on pavements. Salt or other de-icing substances are generally banned; sparing use of road salt is allowed only in exceptional cases such as freezing rain or on steps, ramps, bridge access ramps and slopes. Pavements with trees or adjoining planting must not be gritted with salt.
Breaches may be punished with a fine of at least €2.50, up to €500 for intentional violations and up to €250 for negligent ones.
The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning and fees bylaw of 15 December 1982, 42nd amendment of 10 December 2024 (entered into force on 1 January 2025)
