Düren
Snow must be cleared immediately after every snowfall. Snow falling or ice forming after 10 pm must be cleared by 7 am the next day, or by 8 am on Sundays and public holidays.
Clear the pavement to a width of at least 1 m; in pedestrian zones a strip 1.50 m wide. This also applies up to the kerb at pedestrian crossings and at public transport and school bus stops, to keep access as safe as possible.
Salt and other de-icing substances are generally banned on pavements, allowed only at temperatures around 0°C, black ice or freezing rain, and on steps, ramps, bridge approaches, steep gradients and pedestrian crossing aids. Trees and planted areas must not be gritted, nor may snow mixed with such substances be deposited on them.
Intentional breaches of the cleaning and winter maintenance duty may be fined up to €1,000, negligent breaches up to €500.
The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning bylaw of 23 October 1985, consolidated version as of 1 January 2025
