Bonn
Snow and ice falling between 7 am and 8 pm (in shopping streets with extended opening hours until 8:30 pm; Sundays and public holidays 9 am to 8 pm) must be cleared immediately. Snow falling later must be cleared the next day, on weekdays by 7 am and on Sundays and public holidays by 9 am.
Pavements must be kept clear of snow over a width of 1.50 m, including on residential and access paths and shared foot/cycle paths. At public transport and school bus stops, pavements must be kept clear of snow and gritted when icy so that boarding, alighting and access are safe.
Salt or other de-icing substances are generally banned, permitted only in exceptional weather conditions (e.g. freezing rain) where abrasive grit is not sufficiently effective, or at hazardous spots such as steps, ramps, bridge access ramps and steep slopes, and then limited to what is strictly necessary. Tree pits and planted areas must not be gritted with salt or de-icing agents.
The town's bylaw is authoritative: Bylaw on street cleaning in the federal city of Bonn of 18 December 2012, last amended on 8 December 2025
