Bielefeld
Snow and ice must be removed immediately once the snowfall stops or the ice forms: weekdays between 7 am and 8 pm, Sundays and public holidays between 9 am and 8 pm.
Keep pavements clear of snow and ice over the width needed by pedestrians; where they are wider than 1.50 m or not separated from the road (pedestrian zones, traffic-calmed areas), only over 1.50 m. At bus and school bus stops and pedestrian crossings, clear and grit so that people can get on and off as safely as possible.
Grit with abrasive materials when there is snow or ice. De-icing agents are banned in principle and only allowed where abrasive grit does not work well enough (e.g. black ice or steep slopes). Do not pile snow containing salt on green areas or around trees.
The street cleaning register sorts streets into cleaning classes that determine which pavements owners must clear and grit in winter; in cleaning class 07 this also covers the carriageway.
The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning and fees bylaw of 23 November 1978, version valid from 1 January 2026
