Honest questions. Honest answers.

What does cleaning cost?

The cost depends on the type and scope of the cleaning and on the region. The cleaning calculator gives you a first estimate. The company tells you the exact price when you send a request.

Do you still have capacity?

Just send a request.

How does billing work?

The company that does the work sends you the invoice. The portal does not invoice you and costs you nothing.

Who is liable in Darmstadt if nobody clears the snow?

You are. Even on holiday. Especially on holiday.

What are the snow clearing times in Darmstadt?

Clear and grit between 7 am and 9 pm; snow that fell overnight must be cleared by 8:30 am at the latest. During continuous snowfall or thaw remove snow every 3 hours.

Snow clearing duty

Darmstadt

Clear and grit between 7 am and 9 pm; snow that fell overnight must be cleared by 8:30 am at the latest. During continuous snowfall or thaw remove snow every 3 hours.

Clear the pavement 1 m wide along the most used strip, 2 m wide on busy pavements, pedestrian streets and traffic-calmed zones. Where there is no pavement, keep a strip at least 1 m wide clear on the road.

Grit the full width of the pavement with sand, chippings or other suitable gritting material, repeated as needed. Salt and chemical de-icers only in black ice or freezing rain.

The public street cleaning service does not clear or grit pavements; this duty is transferred to the frontagers.

The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning bylaw of 28 June 1965, last amended 9 October 2025

Griesheim

Clear and grit between 7 am and 8 pm, without delay whenever it snows, except during persistent heavy snowfall.

Clear pavements and crossings wide enough that traffic is not obstructed more than unavoidable; in icy conditions grit pavements across their full width and depth. Clear an access at least 1.25 m wide to the road and to the property entrance.

Grit mainly with sand, chippings and similar material. Salt only in small amounts at particular danger spots such as steps or steep pavements, and against compacted ice and snow residues.

Where there is a pavement on one side only, owners on the pavement side are responsible in years ending in an even number, owners on the opposite side in years ending in an odd number.

The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning bylaw of 3 June 2005, last amended 4 July 2025
