Duisburg
Snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm must be cleared immediately. Snow and ice arising after 8 pm must be cleared by the following morning, on weekdays by 7 am and on Sundays and public holidays by 9 am.
On pavements, or on the carriageway where there is no pavement, a strip at least 1.20 m wide sufficient for pedestrians must be kept free of snow or de-iced. At public transport and school bus stops and at pedestrian crossings, the pavement must likewise be kept clear of snow and gritted when icy.
Salt or other de-icing substances are generally banned on pavements, permitted only in exceptional weather conditions (e.g. freezing rain) where abrasive grit is not sufficiently effective, or at hazardous spots such as steps, ramps, bridge access ramps and steep slopes. Tree pits and planted areas must not be gritted with salt or other de-icing agents.
Breaches can be fined up to €500 if committed intentionally, otherwise up to €250.
The town's bylaw is authoritative: Street cleaning and fees bylaw of 18 December 2007, last amended by the 19th amendment of 4 December 2025
