Snow and ice arising between 7 am and 8 pm must be removed without delay; after 8 pm, by 7 am on weekdays and by 9 am on Sundays and public holidays the following day. Repeat gritting once the grit has lost its effect.
Keep the pavement clear of snow 1.50 m wide and grit it when icy. Where there is no pavement, clear and grit a 1.50 m strip on the built-up side of the road.
Salt and other de-icing agents are generally banned on pavements, allowed only in exceptional cases such as freezing rain or at dangerous spots such as steps, ramps and steep slopes. Do not salt tree pits or planted areas or pile salty snow on them.
Winter service on pavements lies with the adjoining property owners; on the carriageway only in streets of class C in the street cleaning register.

Rathenow

Clear pavements narrower than 1.50 m in full and wider ones to 1.50 m, and grit them with abrasive material when icy. Where there is no separate pavement, clear and grit a 1.5 m strip on the road along its outer edge.
Salt and other de-icing agents are banned; environmentally compatible de-icers only in exceptional cases such as freezing rain, at particularly dangerous spots such as steps, ramps and steep slopes, or at hydrants and shut-off valves if they cannot otherwise be kept clear. Never salt tree pits or planted areas or pile salty snow on them.
Breaches can be fined from €5 to €1,000.
