The footway to be secured is the one within the cleaning area in front of the property, and in cul-de-sacs in front of the frontagers' properties. Where there is no paved or marked-off pavement, a 1.50 m strip from the property boundary with the street applies.
In snow, frost or icy conditions grit with environmentally friendly abrasive material such as sand or chippings, not with de-icing salt or corrosive agents. De-icing salt only where there is a particular risk of ice, for example on steps or steep slopes, and only to the extent necessary.
Anyone who fails to secure the footways, or does not do so in time, or uses more de-icing salt than necessary to deal with a particular hazard, can be fined up to five hundred euros.
