Clear and grit the footway in front of the property at least 1.20 m wide, or all of it if narrower. Where there is no paved pavement, a 1.50 m strip along the edge of the street counts, on squares and wider areas 3.50 m, in pedestrian zones the full width.

Grit with abrasive materials such as sand or chippings. De-icing salt and corrosive agents are generally not allowed; salt only by way of exception, e.g. for flash ice, freezing rain, on steps and steep slopes, sparingly and not into the open root area of trees and shrubs.

Pile cleared snow on or next to the pavement, otherwise remove it from the street by the following day at the latest. Keep gutters, hydrants, drain inlets and pedestrian crossings clear.

On paved pavements keep a 2 m wide strip between the house wall or property boundary and the kerb safe; where there is no paved pavement, the strip along the edge of the street 1.50 m wide. Pile cleared snow next to the footway and keep gutters, hydrants, drain inlets and pedestrian crossings clear.

Grit with sand or other abrasive materials, not with de-icing salt or corrosive substances. De-icing salt is only allowed at particularly dangerous spots such as steps or steep slopes.

The duty applies to all streets, even if they are not listed in the street register. Breaches, including the use of de-icing salt or corrosive substances: fine of up to one thousand euros.
