Clear snow and grit when icy from 7 am on weekdays and from 8 am on Sundays and public holidays; repeat as often as necessary until 8 pm.
Where there is no made-up pavement, a 1 m wide strip at the edge of the road, measured from the passable roadside, counts as the footway. Keep gutters, hydrants, drain inlets and pedestrian crossings clear when clearing snow.
Grit with abrasive materials such as sand or chippings in icy, frosty or slippery conditions, not with de-icing salt or corrosive substances. Where there is a particular danger of slipping, for example on steps or steep slopes, de-icing salt is allowed.
A fine of up to one thousand euros for wilful or negligent breach of the duty to keep the pavement safe.
